FAQs
Have any questions?
Find answers to common questions about our services, certifications, and process.
What types of projects do you handle?
Jeff and Simon handles structural steel packages, steel canopy structures, commercial stairs and railings, and custom residential metalwork. Most of our larger work comes from general contractors, developers, and architects across Metro Vancouver.
Do you take full structural steel packages on commercial projects?
Yes. We fabricate and install complete steel packages: beams, columns, frames, canopies, stair towers, mezzanine platforms, elevator-shaft steel, and miscellaneous steel. Recent examples include the structural steel for St. Herman of Alaska Orthodox Church in Langley and institutional stair scopes for Interior Health at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops and Kelowna General Hospital.
Do you build steel canopy structures?
Yes. We fabricate and install entrance canopies, porte cocheres, parkade trellises, and other overhead steel structures for commercial and residential buildings. Recent installs include steel canopies in New Westminster and a structural steel entrance canopy for a luxury home in West Vancouver.
Do you produce shop drawings?
Yes. Every structural scope starts with detailed shop drawings, including 3D modelling where the connections call for it. Drawings go to the architect or engineer of record for review before any steel is cut, which keeps fabrication aligned with the design intent and the site schedule.
Is your team certified and licensed?
Yes. The shop is C.W.B. certified to CSA W47.1 standards, and the licensed crews have experience across commercial, industrial, and residential applications.
How do you ensure project quality and safety?
The team follows strict construction and design standards while keeping safety protocols active through fabrication, coordination, and installation. All structural welding is performed by qualified welders under C.W.B. supervision.
Where do you work?
Primary service areas include Burnaby, Vancouver, Coquitlam, New Westminster, North Vancouver, Port Moody, Squamish, West Vancouver, and Whistler. The shop is on Douglas Road in Burnaby, most Metro Vancouver project sites are a 10 to 30 minute drive.
How can I request a quote?
Call +1 (604) 294 0409, email info@jeffandsimon.com, or use the quote and contact forms on this site to share the project type, address, and preferred timing.
Do you have project references or awards?
Yes. Jeff and Simon highlights award-winning project involvement, including the VRCA 2021 Award of Excellence (Silver Award on Naikoon PH1) and Georgia Awards work. Notable clients include Interior Health, BCIT, Simon Fraser University, Surrey Memorial Hospital, and Guildford Town Centre.
How much do custom metal railings cost?
Custom railing pricing depends on material choice, design complexity, linear footage, finish specification, and site conditions. Every project is quoted individually after reviewing drawings or doing a site visit, request a quote to get an accurate number for your scope.
How long does a typical project take from quote to installation?
Most residential projects take 4 to 8 weeks from approved shop drawings to installation. A standard railing replacement runs 4 to 6 weeks. A full custom staircase with mixed materials can take 8 to 12 weeks. Commercial projects with architect review cycles typically run 10 to 16 weeks depending on scope and coordination requirements.
What materials do you work with?
We fabricate in mild steel, stainless steel (304 and 316 grades), aluminum, and specialty metals as specified. Finish options include powder coating, hot-dip galvanizing, brushed stainless, and custom colour matching. Material selection depends on the application, for example, stainless steel 316 is recommended for waterfront properties due to salt air corrosion resistance.
Do you handle both residential and commercial projects?
Yes. Commercial work covers structural steel packages, canopies, stair systems, glass and stainless railings, and miscellaneous metals for general contractors, architects, and institutional clients. Residential work includes custom staircases, railings, gates, and canopies for homeowners and builders. The same C.W.B. quality standards apply to both.
